As a young teen and new immigrant to the United States, Messay watched a brave stranger approach her mother, younger brother, and her while they waited for the school bus in front of a church during their second week in the United States. This man, a Christ-follower, welcomed them into his life and home as family, and it’s a moment she’ll never forget. Since that day, she has without a doubt understood what Christ’s love entails.
Since then, she has attended church in English and Oromifa, one of Ethiopia’s most widely spoken languages. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Social Work from a small Christian school in Indiana and worked with at-risk youth. Working with the youth was extremely difficult, not because of the youth, but because of the difficult life circumstances that they had to navigate. It was heartbreaking to see them question Christ’s love for them. Her desire is to always demonstrate the love of God through the way she lives so that it may serve as a testimony to others, and her prayer is that those individuals will ask themselves, “What kind of God does she serve? That’s the God I want.” Through counseling, she seeks to assist individuals in expanding their faith and understanding of God’s love.
She is passionate about community engagement and has participated in numerous programs and community event planning. She is a wife and mother of three children and enjoys spending time with them. Her faith and family are the most important aspects of her life, and she is grateful for all the blessings God has bestowed upon her.
In 2020, Messay was introduced to LINC and has received coaching as well as training in prayer ministry. She facilitates a weekly global prayer meeting across many nations via Zoom, and joins our LINC Chicago team as a Lead Encourager.
